Most "AI tools for Shopify" lists are really lists of AI copywriters. That's the easy part. The harder part of running a store is everything after the product page goes live: getting buyers back, answering "where's my order?" forty times a day, collecting reviews, nudging average order value up, and figuring out which ads actually made money. That's where AI now earns its keep, and it's what this guide covers.

Quick picks, as of September 2026:

  • Start free with Shopify Sidekick and Magic. They're built into your admin, cost nothing on any plan, and cover a surprising amount of store admin, analysis and customer replies.
  • Pay for Klaviyo first. Email and SMS flows are the highest-return automation most small stores can set up, and Klaviyo's AI helps build segments and campaigns. It's our overall pick.
  • Add Gorgias when support takes more than an hour a day. Its AI Agent charges per resolved conversation, not per seat.
  • Add Yotpo early for reviews; its free plan covers up to 50 orders a month.
  • Save Rebuy and Triple Whale for later. Upsell engines and attribution dashboards pay off once you have real traffic and a real ad budget, not before.

Writing product copy or fixing product photos? Those have their own guides: best AI tools for product descriptions and best AI tools for editing product photos.

Our pick

Klaviyo

4.6

Best for: Email and SMS flows that make money while you sleep · Free up to 250 contacts; Email from $20/mo; SMS from $15/mo

Klaviyo is the one paid AI tool we'd tell almost every Shopify store to install. Abandoned-cart, welcome and win-back flows run on autopilot, the Shopify data sync is deep, and the AI layer (natural-language segments, email and SMS drafting, predicted lifetime value and churn risk) sits on top of that data. It's free up to 250 contacts and $20 a month for up to 500, and it holds a 4.7-star rating from more than 3,300 reviews on the Shopify App Store. Pair it with Shopify's free built-in AI and you've covered most of what a new store needs.

How we picked these tools

We looked at store operations, not content creation: marketing automation, customer support, reviews, on-site personalization and analytics. Each tool had to integrate natively with Shopify, have a meaningful AI feature (not just a "powered by AI" badge), and publish at least a starting price. Prices, plans and Shopify App Store ratings were checked against official pages and App Store listings in late September 2026. We haven't run a controlled head-to-head test, so ratings reflect features, pricing, fit and public reviews. More on our approach on the how we test page. For AI beyond your store, our pillar on the best AI tools for small businesses covers the wider toolkit.

"AI that takes actions" means the tool can do work end to end, like Sidekick running store tasks in the background, Gorgias's agent resolving a ticket, or Klaviyo's Composer building a campaign, rather than just drafting text for you to approve.

The tools, stage by stage

Stage 1: before and just after your first sale

At this point your budget is close to zero and your biggest constraint is time. Use what's free.

Pricing
Free on all Shopify plans
Best for
Every Shopify store, from day one

What it is: Shopify's own AI, split in two. Sidekick is the chat assistant in your admin; Shopify says it can handle tasks such as analyzing data, managing orders, or editing products, keep working on longer jobs after you close the chat, and even generate custom apps for your store. You can talk to it by text, voice or screen share. Magic is the AI sprinkled through the rest of the admin.

Pricing: Free. Shopify states that Magic tools are available regardless of your subscription plan, and Sidekick is included too.

What's good: The operations features are the underrated part. Magic drafts Shopify Messaging emails and subject lines, powers Shopify Inbox instant answers and suggested replies, writes segment descriptions and projects customer spending. Ask Sidekick "which products sold best to repeat customers last quarter?" and you skip building a report. Shopify also says it doesn't use one merchant's store data to power Magic for other merchants.

Watch out for: Language support varies by feature, and some Magic features aren't optimized for mobile. Shopify Messaging is fine for a newsletter, but its automation is thinner than a dedicated email platform once you want serious flows.

Best for: Everyone on Shopify. Get comfortable with it before you install anything.

Pricing
Free up to 250 contacts; Email from $20/mo; SMS from $15/mo
Best for
Email and SMS flows that make money while you sleep

What it is: The email and SMS platform most Shopify brands end up on, with AI woven through it. Its AI features page lists Composer, a marketing agent that "will build the audience, draft the content, and map out the send strategy" from a goal you describe; Segments AI for building audiences in plain English; predictive analytics for lifetime value, churn risk and next order date; personalized send times; and a Customer Agent for service conversations.

Pricing: The Klaviyo pricing page lists a free plan with up to 250 active profiles, 500 email sends a month, $5 of mobile messages and $5 of Composer usage a month. On the Shopify App Store listing, Email starts at $20 a month for 251 to 500 contacts and SMS at $15 a month for 1,250 credits. Price rises with your list size, and Composer and Customer Agent are usage-based add-ons whose full rates you'll see in the plan builder.

What's good: Deep Shopify sync (browse, cart, order and product data), prebuilt flows, and AI that works on real purchase data rather than guesses. A welcome series, abandoned cart, browse abandonment and post-purchase flow are four setups that keep working without you. 4.7 stars from 3,329 App Store reviews.

Watch out for: Bills climb fast as your list grows, and Klaviyo counts active profiles, so prune unengaged contacts. The free plan's email support only lasts 60 days.

Best for: Any store with a product people buy more than once, or that gets real traffic to its cart.

Pricing
Free up to 50 orders/mo; Starter $15/mo; Pro $119/mo
Best for
Collecting reviews and photos with AI summaries

What it is: A review and user-generated content app. It sends review requests (including in-mail forms), uses AI-powered prompts to get more detailed reviews, and adds AI review summaries, sentiment analysis, smart sorting and Google rich snippets.

Pricing: Free for up to 50 monthly orders, Starter at $15 a month and Pro at $119 a month, with paid tiers priced by order volume.

What's good: The free tier covers exactly the stage where reviews matter most and you have the fewest. The AI summaries condense dozens of reviews into a paragraph shoppers actually read. It holds 4.8 stars from 4,628 App Store reviews, the highest on this list.

Watch out for: Pricing jumps once you pass Starter. If you just want basic reviews and don't care about syndication or AI summaries, cheaper review apps exist.

Best for: Stores that need social proof now and want room to grow.

Stage 2: growing toward $10k a month

Now the bottleneck shifts to support volume and repetitive customer conversations. This is where you start paying for time back.

Pricing
From $10/mo (50 tickets); AI Agent $0.90 to $1 per resolution
Best for
Stores drowning in where-is-my-order tickets

What it is: A Shopify-first helpdesk that pulls email, chat, social, SMS and voice into one inbox, with order data beside every ticket. Its AI Agent can answer and resolve conversations on its own (order status, returns policy, product questions), and there are AI summaries and suggested responses for human agents.

Pricing: On the Shopify App Store: Starter $10 a month (50 tickets, 3 agents), Basic $60 (300 tickets), Pro $360 (2,000 tickets) and Advanced $900 (5,000 tickets), with unlimited agents above Starter and 17% off annually. Gorgias says most plans pay $0.90 per AI-resolved interaction, and Starter plans begin at $1. You're only billed when the AI resolves a conversation entirely on its own; handoffs to humans, spam and filtered messages don't count.

What's good: Pay-per-resolution is a fair model: if the AI fails, you don't pay for the AI. Pricing by tickets rather than seats suits small teams with a part-time helper.

Watch out for: The two meters add up: you're paying for the helpdesk plan and for each AI resolution, and third-party pricing breakdowns report that AI-handled conversations can count against both. Overage rates weren't published on the pages we checked, so ask before you commit. It has 4.3 stars from 706 reviews, the lowest of the support-and-marketing picks here.

Best for: Stores getting more than about 10 tickets a day, most of them repetitive. If you want to compare it with general website chatbots, see our AI chatbots for customer support guide.

Stage 3: scaling past $10k a month

With steady traffic and a growing ad budget, small percentage gains become real dollars. These two tools are built for that.

Pricing
Packages from $25/mo, scaling by orders; Platform One $534/mo
Best for
AI upsells and smart carts once you have steady traffic

What it is: A personalization engine for upsells and cross-sells: an AI-driven Smart Cart, product recommendations on product pages and at checkout, post-purchase offers, personalized search and A/B testing. Rebuy says its models draw on events from across all Rebuy stores.

Pricing: The official pricing page shows à la carte packages starting at $25 a month each (cart, checkout and post-purchase, search, flows and A/B testing), with prices scaling by orders per month, and Platform One at $534 a month for everything. There's a 14-day free trial on packages (30 days on Platform One), plus a free Rebuy Monetize option that pays you per order for showing partner offers after purchase.

What's good: Recommendations get better with volume, and the A/B testing means you can check whether the upsell actually lifts order value instead of taking the vendor's word for it. 4.7 stars from 852 App Store reviews.

Watch out for: Stacking packages quickly adds up, and billing is based on the previous month's orders, so a big sale month raises next month's bill.

Best for: Stores with at least a few hundred orders a month and a catalog with natural add-ons. On a tighter budget, LimeSpot does AI bundles and upsells with a free tier (up to 10 orders a month) and paid plans from $9.99 a month, rated 4.6 from 507 reviews.

Pricing
Free plan; Foundation $219/mo; Automate $749/mo
Best for
Ad-heavy brands that need attribution and profit data

What it is: An analytics and attribution platform that pulls Shopify, ad platforms and other data into one dashboard. Its AI, Moby, answers questions about your numbers and, on higher plans, acts as an operator that can work in your ad accounts, run scheduled automations and generate ad creatives.

Pricing: The Shopify App Store listing shows a Free plan (10 users, 12-month lookback, first and last-click attribution), Foundation at $219 a month (multi-touch attribution, subscription data, Moby) and Automate at $749 a month (Moby automations, creative generation, autonomous actions), with about 17% off annually. Third-party pricing roundups report that quotes rise with your store's revenue, so check the price for your size.

What's good: When you're spending across Meta, Google and TikTok, each platform claims credit for the same sale. Multi-touch attribution plus profit tracking is how you work out which spend is real.

Watch out for: Reviews are split: 4.1 stars from 90 reviews, with 17% one-star, and support is a recurring complaint. Attribution is modeled, not gospel. And if you're spending a few hundred dollars a month on ads, the free plan or Shopify's own reports are plenty.

Best for: Brands spending real money on paid ads across several channels. If you're still writing your first campaigns, start with our guide to writing Facebook and Google ad copy with AI.

Starter stacks and what they cost

The trap with Shopify apps is that each one looks cheap on its own. Six "only $20 a month" apps plus usage fees is a real line item, and it's easy to keep paying for apps you stopped using. Here's what we'd run at each stage, using the list prices above:

StageStackApproximate monthly cost
First saleSidekick and Magic, Shopify Inbox, Klaviyo Free, Yotpo Free$0
Growing toward $10k/moAdd Klaviyo Email (from $20), Yotpo Starter ($15), Gorgias Basic ($60) plus AI resolutionsAbout $95 plus usage
Scaling past $10k/moKlaviyo at your list size, Gorgias Pro ($360), Rebuy packages (from $25 each), Triple Whale Foundation ($219)Roughly $650 and up

Those numbers are floors, not quotes. Klaviyo grows with contacts, Gorgias with tickets and AI resolutions, and Rebuy and Yotpo with orders.

A few more cost-saving habits:

  • Use trials with a calendar reminder. Rebuy's 14-day trial is only useful if you measure before it ends.
  • Pay annually only after three good months. Gorgias and Triple Whale both discount annual billing by about 17%, but that locks you in.
  • Let free tools do the glue work. For connecting apps that don't talk to each other, a no-code automation is often cheaper than another subscription. Our Zapier vs Make vs n8n comparison covers the options.

What AI still won't do for your store

AI can draft, sort, predict and answer. It can't tell you whether your product is priced right, whether your supplier will ship on time, or whether a discount is worth the margin. Upsell engines will happily recommend products you're about to run out of, support agents will confidently quote an outdated return policy if that's what's in their knowledge base, and attribution tools model credit rather than measure it. Check the AI's work where money or promises to customers are involved, and keep your policies and product data current, because every tool on this list is only as good as what you feed it.

Our take

Start with what Shopify gives you for free, then add Klaviyo as your first paid tool, because automated email and SMS flows are the most reliable return on a small store's software budget. Add Yotpo early while the free tier covers you, and Gorgias once support starts eating your day. Rebuy and Triple Whale are strong tools, but they're scaling tools: install them when you have the traffic and ad spend for their numbers to matter, not because a growth thread told you to.

Frequently asked questions

Is Shopify's AI free?

Yes. Shopify says Magic features are available regardless of your subscription plan, and Sidekick is included too. You don't pay extra for AI inside the Shopify admin; paid AI comes from third-party apps.

What's the most useful AI app for a new Shopify store?

For most stores, an email and SMS platform like Klaviyo. Automated welcome, abandoned-cart and post-purchase flows keep making sales without you, and Klaviyo is free up to 250 contacts.

Can AI handle Shopify customer service on its own?

Partly. Tools like Gorgias's AI Agent can fully resolve repetitive questions like order status and return policy, and you pay only when it does. Complex complaints, damaged orders and refunds still need a person, so plan for a human handoff.

How much should a small Shopify store spend on apps?

There's no fixed rule, but you can run a solid AI stack for $0 before your first sales and roughly $100 a month while growing. Review every app charge quarterly and cancel anything you can't tie to revenue or saved time.

Do I need Triple Whale if I use Shopify analytics?

Not early on. Shopify's reports and Sidekick cover most questions for a small store. Attribution tools like Triple Whale earn their price once you're spending meaningfully on ads across several platforms and need to know which spend is actually working.
